The 9400, like the 4500-E and 6500 series, is modular and designed for the core layer of the switching structure.

It supports bandwidths from 480 Gbps in each of the modules to 9 terabits per second in each chassis, and a variety of customizable modules of 1, 10, 25 and 40 Gbps for Uplink ports and 1 Gigabit multi-gigabit copper or fiber optic modules. It has 10 gigabytes of fiber optics
